June 27th 2019: Sekhmet, Lady Of The Many Faces, Mother Of Images, The Aware, Sekhmet Of The Knives enters Gemini, the sign of the stream of consciousness. “Floats like a butterfly, stings like a bee.”
Swords are traditionally used as the suit of the mental realm, a double-edged blade used to attack and defend. Some modern Tarot traditions use the suit of Crystals to depict a vision of the mental realm that is multifaceted, inherently valuable, nonviolent, and organically from the Earth. The eight-pointed figure that appears in the center of the Eight of Swords is actually a flower, but I choose to see it as a polished crystal, like a mind that has been perfected in meditation.
The Eight of Swords is the card of intellectual perfection, stillness. It represents the mastery of emptiness required for receptivity in the mind. The Eight of Swords for Sekhmet in Gemini is a symbol of Sekhmet’s power to swallow the noise of a chaotic brain, making way for a more peaceful cerebral flow where we are able to consider all thoughts as they pass by without needing a dogmatic belief system to classify them as good or bad.
