Tarot Clarity – Apophis in Libra – Three of Wands

August 9th 2019: The dark madness of Apophis comes home to Libra, the realm of balance- which is a concept, not a creature- the scales are the only inanimate zodiac symbol. Balance is just an idea of relation to a core or center, it is not an actual thing, it is not a steady state that can be permanently achieved. Balancing requires navigation of chaos: assessing and accounting for infinite variables in a constantly changing environment.

The Three of Wands is a card that refers to a burst of creative energy that springs forth naturally, not from planning, not towards a goal, just fresh new urges. It can often indicate where energy is being wasted, or where the wad is being blown so to speak- because it is difficult for many to learn how to control the power of their creative impulses. But it is simply a symbol of the urgency of nature.

One thing that stands out to me about the Three of Wands is that I see it in three dimensions, it is the X-Y-Z axis of the firmament, with the flowers emerging from the zero point and the leaves curling into space. Apophis in Libra as the Three of Wands shows how the chaos of the creative urge is an essential factor in the stability of existence in this Universe. Life, uh, finds a way.

Tarot Clarity – Apophis in Virgo – Page of Swords

July 5th 2019: Apophis enters Virgo, the god of chaos in the sign of order. Virgo is where all things are assigned a purpose and a place, giving stability to our mental construct of the world. Apophis throws curveballs into the system, making us question our own sanity.

The Page of Swords is the embodiment of what it means to be in your own way. He has this great sword but doesn’t even seem to know how to hold it properly, let alone how to use it. He’s all dressed up but doesn’t know which way to go. It’s the intellectual decadence of entertaining all thoughts and ideas with no guiding principles, no ethics. He doesn’t stand for something; he will fall for anything.

apophis.virgo.page.swords

Apophis in Virgo as the Page of Swords is a symbol of the confusion felt when the structures we rely on to make sense of our world get jumbled by unpredictable events, and gives direction for how to react: it starts with being humble enough to acknowledge that we don’t know what we don’t know. Information that lacks the proper context can be more dangerous than ignorance. The Page of Swords has a yellow “third eye” on his hat, showing that he is not focused on taking action, but rather is receptive to a greater awareness.

Tarot Clarity – Apophis in Leo – Strength

May 30th 2019: Apophis, the merciless sorcerer, enters Leo, the realm of ego lessons. Apophis in Leo draws out the contrast, no matter how subtle, between the identity that we idealize for ourselves, and the actual role we play in relationships, environment, and culture. The consequence of this difference on our emotional stability is immense.

Strength is the card most aligned with the symbolism of Leo, depicting a woman controlling the ego (Lion) with a gentle, hypnotic touch. When superhuman feats are achieved by brute strength, that’s domination. When superhuman feats are achieved by humility, that’s sacred.

apophis.leo.strength.jpg

The magic of Leo is that a healthy and humble ego is the key to conscious participation in the co-creation of reality. The hardest Leo pill to swallow is that even when we finally learn how to align ourselves with the assistance of divine intervention to move mountains, we are never guaranteed public recognition or material reward.

Strength for Apophis in Leo represents the desire to force our ideal self-image into the minds of others. Showing off and/or bullying is often a sure-fire way to get praise, admiration, and financial success in our society, and when the ongoing temptation to engage in these behaviors is combined with a self-image of being a kind and loving person, the result is a massive conflict in the personality. Strength for Apophis in Leo can also represent someone who has mastered the Leo Brave Heart, yet is consistently overlooked, ignored, disappointed or even persecuted as the dubious reward for their enlightenment.

Tarot Clarity – Apophis in Cancer – The Chariot

April 25th 2019: Apophis enters Cancer, the safe borders of our personal space violated by the chaos trickster. In the cardinal water sign he orchestrates emotional disorder, which exaggerates imbalances in the intimacy of family space with frustrations about unmet needs.

The Marseille Chariot is fascinating: it is led by two horses going in opposite directions- one is aware of the conflict, the other is oblivious; the horses have no reins; and the Chariot itself is built into the ground like a house. It is not a vehicle that travels across the earth, the vehicle is connected to the earth and travels through the days and nights as the earth turns.

The horses can represent the heart and the mind, or any two factors that are out of balance with each other in ways that make us feel like we are struggling and not getting anywhere.

apophis.cancer.chariot

The Chariot is a card that can indicate guranteed success. It is also a card that reflects our perceptions of insurmountable obstacles, unyielding inertia, and feeling stuck. The Chariot represents someone who knows they have a place in the world, but has not yet “arrived.”

Apophis can be a cruel god, but in my experience his cruelty is never meaningless. He creates lessons that reveal the fragility of our illusions about order and purpose. In Cancer, he knocks us out of alignment with ourselves in ways that inspire us to try to leave our entire lives behind and start over. But the Chariot stays in one place. The feeling of being stuck comes from the belief that we need to be somewhere else, which is often a disguise for the belief that we need to be someone else.

Apophis in Cancer as the Chariot is about learning how to bloom where you are planted, against all odds. No matter where you go, there you are.

Tarot Clarity – Apophis in Gemini – Four of Pentacles

March 24th 2019: Asteroid Apophis enters Gemini, the god of chaos trickery in the realm of the wind, directionless, omnidirectional, gentle breeze and lethal tornado.

Consciousness seeks patterns to construct order out of chaos. Chaos is the source, the origin of all structures we create with our minds. And when two negative numbers are multiplied together, the result is positive.

The Four of Pentacles is about bodily integrity and the stability of the physical form. The phoenix burns at the center of the four corners, the unseen process of cellular division and destruction that sustains life. Homeostasis is the defining quality of being alive, to strive for stability and security within a chaotic universe.

apophis.gemini.4pentacles

Apophis in Gemini as the Four of Pentacles is the never-ending stream of chaotic sensory information that enters the hypothalamus.

Apophis in Gemini as the Four of Pentacles is a symbol of how our pattern-seeking thoughts can be a factor in how the nature of chaos manifests into the order of flesh.
