Tarot Clarity – Sun in Libra – Four of Wands

September 23rd 2019: Sun enters Libra, Fall Equinox, the moment when long days are overtaken by long nights, the season when Earth’s deciduous vegetation transforms from green to shades of gold, crimson, peach, caramel, plum.

sun.7.libra.four.wands

The Four of Wands represents the manifestation of desire, starting with a vision and giving it a stable form, and Libra is the cardinal air sign. From this perspective the physical realm exists only to provide a structure for symbols that we can use to communicate our inner truth, interpret our role in the world, and live our dreams.

The Sun in Libra as the Four of Wands shows that the essence of true beauty shines brightest when the outer expression is a true reflection of an enchanted imagination.

Tarot Clarity – Venus in Libra – The Pope

September 14th 2019: Venus enters Libra, the sign that she rules with the elegance of Yin, alluring and receptive. Libra is a Yang sign, and of all the Yang signs Libra is the most aligned with the values of emotionless formal logic, which provides a sharply defined container that can enhance the sensual capacities of Venus.

venus.7.libra.pope

As humans, we exist at the intersection of overlapping spheres, between the physical and the spiritual, the animal and the enlightened. The Devil card is a symbol of the bridge through the lower instincts to prehistoric collective fears and ancestral DNA memories.  The Pope card is a symbol of the bridge through higher consciousness to the cosmos, to the bliss of enlightenment, which can often be experienced as a visit from an angel, or speaking directly to God.

Venus in Libra as The Pope represents the divine proportions of beauty. The perfect balance of shape and shadow, refined taste and subtle flair, strikes us as rationally, objectively beautiful. The mathematical principles of visual appeal are androgynous, which requires a healthy flowing balance of Yin and Yang, neither dominating nor submissive.

Tarot Clarity – Mercury in Libra – Eight of Cups

September 14th 2019: Mercury enters Libra, a transit that embodies gregarious, magnanimous, diplomatic communication. In the sign of the scales, Mercury brings our focus to our awareness of how we are received, and places the highest priority on rapport.

mercury.7.libra.eight.cups

The Eight of Cups is the card of emotional mastery, which is the experience of truly feeling oneness with everything. Where the Four of Cups can be seen as a symbol of merging with a partner in a sacred marriage, the Eight of Cups is a symbol of merging with the universe.

Mercury in Libra as the Eight of Cups is a symbol of being ultimately open minded and being able to relate to everyone, having authentic interest in the different experiences that produce different personalities and beliefs. Due to having an idealized vision of what communication could be, it can be a challenge for this placement to learn to stop judging others for not living up to its extremely high standards.  But when living its truth, Mercury in Libra cares deeply about every voice having an equal chance to be heard.

Tarot Clarity – Apophis in Libra – Three of Wands

August 9th 2019: The dark madness of Apophis comes home to Libra, the realm of balance- which is a concept, not a creature- the scales are the only inanimate zodiac symbol. Balance is just an idea of relation to a core or center, it is not an actual thing, it is not a steady state that can be permanently achieved. Balancing requires navigation of chaos: assessing and accounting for infinite variables in a constantly changing environment.

The Three of Wands is a card that refers to a burst of creative energy that springs forth naturally, not from planning, not towards a goal, just fresh new urges. It can often indicate where energy is being wasted, or where the wad is being blown so to speak- because it is difficult for many to learn how to control the power of their creative impulses. But it is simply a symbol of the urgency of nature.

One thing that stands out to me about the Three of Wands is that I see it in three dimensions, it is the X-Y-Z axis of the firmament, with the flowers emerging from the zero point and the leaves curling into space. Apophis in Libra as the Three of Wands shows how the chaos of the creative urge is an essential factor in the stability of existence in this Universe. Life, uh, finds a way.

Tarot Clarity – Hekate in Libra – Six of Cups

July 22nd 2019: Asteroid Hekate enters Libra, the fall equinox point on the world axis. In the myth of Persephone, Ceres seeks Oracle Hekate to help her find her missing daughter, but instead receives the guidance that empowers her to accept that her child is not her posession and can not be held and kept safe forever. In this way, Hekate does not necessarily give us the answers we seek- regardless of what or how we ask, she shows us the only authentic path forward.

The Six of Cups is a card of consummation. Where the Three of Cups might represent finding one’s first love, the Six of Cups represents finding our life partner: a secure, fulfilling, sustainable emotional experience.

hekate.libra.six.cups

Hekate in Libra as the Six of Cups shows the wholeness that we must embody to safely step from one realm to the next. There are many ways to be split apart from oneself, wether shattered by trauma, or simply disorganized compartmentalization from years of living by other people’s rules and expactations, walking other people’s paths. These splits must be healed- or at the very least acknowledged and addressed- or any attempt to choose a new path in life will only increase the damage and cause more splits.

Tarot Clarity – Eros in Libra – Two of Wands

Eros in Libra, the God Prince of Love in the sign of beauty and partnership, the palace of his mother Venus. In Libra, Eros embodies the Cupid archetype popularly imagined as a cherub. Cupid’s arrows are his divine birthright. He is the immortal entity responsible for directing the circumstances that bring lovers together.

The Two of Wands is a card that usually indicates insecurity and inhibitions: creative or sexual flow that is stuck behind an energetic block. Eros in Libra inverts this interpretation of the Two of Wands around the concept of desire.

eros.libra.2.wands

The word “virgin” doesn’t just mean someone who has never had sex. A child who has no concept of sex or attraction does not think of themselves as a virgin. The deeper implication is that a virgin is someone who has become aware of their sexuality but has not acted on it yet. Eros is aroused for the first time when a youth realizes that they are a virgin.

In our culture, there is a misplaced emphasis on the significance of the first sexual act, so recognition of virginity tends to enter our minds as the perception that we are lacking something important. The magic of Cupid is that he can return us to the same blush of innocent hunger with each and every new lover we encounter in our lives, so it is also common to feel the same impression of absence. When we define ourselves by what we don’t have and/or haven’t done, the result is always going to be the Two of Wands: insecurity and inhibitions.

The Two of Wands representing Eros in Libra teaches us that desire in its healthiest and most potent form does not view the self as lacking love, it views the self as a place where love belongs. Desire is a sensory celebration of our capacity for new experiences. Desire is a call for love to come home.
