The Six of Wands is the card of the true artist. Before reaching this stage, the spirit seeks outside of itself for inspiration, and yearns to be a part of something beautiful. Possibilities must be considered and education pursued. There must be committment, practice, challenges, and risks. The Six of Wands represents the master who has transcended all of that and creates effortlessly from their inner connection with the divine flow.

Tarot Clarity – Apophis in Libra – Three of Wands

August 9th 2019: The dark madness of Apophis comes home to Libra, the realm of balance- which is a concept, not a creature- the scales are the only inanimate zodiac symbol. Balance is just an idea of relation to a core or center, it is not an actual thing, it is not a steady state that can be permanently achieved. Balancing requires navigation of chaos: assessing and accounting for infinite variables in a constantly changing environment.

The Three of Wands is a card that refers to a burst of creative energy that springs forth naturally, not from planning, not towards a goal, just fresh new urges. It can often indicate where energy is being wasted, or where the wad is being blown so to speak- because it is difficult for many to learn how to control the power of their creative impulses. But it is simply a symbol of the urgency of nature.

One thing that stands out to me about the Three of Wands is that I see it in three dimensions, it is the X-Y-Z axis of the firmament, with the flowers emerging from the zero point and the leaves curling into space. Apophis in Libra as the Three of Wands shows how the chaos of the creative urge is an essential factor in the stability of existence in this Universe. Life, uh, finds a way.

Tarot Clarity – Eros in Scorpio – Knight of Wands

August 3rd 2019: Eros finishes his transit though Libra where the Cupid archetype brings first awareness of desire for the other. When Eros enters Scorpio, he brings awareness of what lovers do- fluid bonding in the dark. As Jeff Goldblum says in The Fly, “I’m talking about penetration beyond the veil of the flesh! A deep, penetrating dive into the plasma pool!”

The Knight of Wands is the only Knight that rides a white horse, which is a symbol of fulfilled desires. The arrival of a white horse indicates that prayers have been answered and wishes granted. But mostly, the Knight of Wands embodies the idea that once we get what we want, we don’t want it anymore, either because we are too immature to advance to the next level and are stuck craving the experience of the chase, or because we are mature and can expand new dreams on the foundation of the ones that came before.

Tarot Clarity – Eros in Libra – Two of Wands

Eros in Libra, the God Prince of Love in the sign of beauty and partnership, the palace of his mother Venus. In Libra, Eros embodies the Cupid archetype popularly imagined as a cherub. Cupid’s arrows are his divine birthright. He is the immortal entity responsible for directing the circumstances that bring lovers together.

The Two of Wands is a card that usually indicates insecurity and inhibitions: creative or sexual flow that is stuck behind an energetic block. Eros in Libra inverts this interpretation of the Two of Wands around the concept of desire.

The word “virgin” doesn’t just mean someone who has never had sex. A child who has no concept of sex or attraction does not think of themselves as a virgin. The deeper implication is that a virgin is someone who has become aware of their sexuality but has not acted on it yet. Eros is aroused for the first time when a youth realizes that they are a virgin.

In our culture, there is a misplaced emphasis on the significance of the first sexual act, so recognition of virginity tends to enter our minds as the perception that we are lacking something important. The magic of Cupid is that he can return us to the same blush of innocent hunger with each and every new lover we encounter in our lives, so it is also common to feel the same impression of absence. When we define ourselves by what we don’t have and/or haven’t done, the result is always going to be the Two of Wands: insecurity and inhibitions.

The Two of Wands representing Eros in Libra teaches us that desire in its healthiest and most potent form does not view the self as lacking love, it views the self as a place where love belongs. Desire is a sensory celebration of our capacity for new experiences. Desire is a call for love to come home.

Tarot Clarity – Mars in Cancer – Page of Wands

May 15th 2019: Mars enters Cancer, a tricky placement for the planet of overt action to be confined to a secure refuge. The Martian spirit says “the best defense is a good offense” but in the crab shell of Cancer, Mars energy is divorced from the attack, surrounded by shields and armor. Aggression in Cancer is usually passive, and sometimes passionately violent.

The Page of Wands is the card of hesitation. It represents having identified a dream but not trusting oneself enough to fully pursue it. Or it can represent impostor syndrome- the fear of believing that you might actually be great.

Mars in Cancer as the Page of Wands symbolizes the unique frustration of the planet of Yang in the sign of the Mother, and an acknowledgement of the humility it requires to learn the lesson of this transit. Tarot Clarity – Venus in Aries – Seven of Wands

Venus in Aries. The planet of Yin enters the sign of Yang, the maximum masculine expression for the embodiment of female energy.

The Seven of Wands is the actualization of a dream, the inspired action that turns the divine awareness of the six into the perfect manifestation of the eight.

Venus in Aries as the Seven of Wands is a symbol of insemination, which is dominated even conceptually by the male perspective of ejaculation and triumph. But when the female egg is confronted with a river of sperm, there is no passive yin reception. She actively destroys them as they approach.

Aries energy makes it difficult for the feminine to feel satisfied. Here, she must learn to harness the power of yang and say no a thousand times in order to fully open up for one yin welcoming yes.

Tarot Clarity – Vesta in Aries – Ten of Wands

April 3rd 2019: Asteroid Vesta enters Aries, the priestess of the sacred flame enters the sign of cardinal fire.

The Ten, like the Ace, symolizes something outside the realm of lived experience. The Ace represents the essence of the suit in the form of its seed potential, and the Ten represents the fulfillment of the potential, with the understanding that fulfillment of one suit fertilizes the seed of the next. The fulfillment of Wands fertilizes the seed of Swords; a creative passion that has reached its ultimate expression fertilizes a new journey in the intellectual realm.

Zero Aries is the first degree, first sign of the zodiac, which can be a spotlight on all the ways we feel like a neophyte. The Ten of Wands representing Vesta in Aries reminds us that we would not be at this new starting point at all, if not for the levels of mastery we already achieved. The intellectual goals that seem intimidating now, are evidence that we are successfully giving birth to a more authentic version of ourselves.

As flame must be controlled and sculpted to flourish, spread warmth, and serve, so must the soul. Without the ritual and skills of the flame-keepers, fire brings pain and loss.
